Questions Pertaining to Tidalpool’s Electric Portable Dryer with UV Lamp
Q: Why the UV lamp?
A: Germs bother you the same way that they bother us. That’s why we wanted to solve this problem by building a germicidal UV-C lamp into each of our dryers to kill over 99% of most viruses, airborne bacteria, and mold spores! It’s perfectly safe for your clothing and that extra layer of sanitizing will give you and your loved ones peace of mind. This is ideal and practical for baby clothes or for those who share laundry facilities with others. It automatically activates at the end of your drying cycle to conveniently deliver you fresh clean clothes without any hassle!
We’ve done the research, and it’s been proven that regular washing and drying machines have bacteria that survive inside. These machines are teeming with bacteria that find their way onto your clothes, and then onto you! Do some research for yourself how dirty laundry can be!
“Your dirty laundry may actually be even dirtier after you wash it. That’s because experts say washing machines are teeming with bacteria that find their way onto your clothes – and then onto you. Our smallest items – our undergarments – are the biggest culprits because of the prescence of fecal matter and the different types of bacteria it can carry… Fecal matter can carry a number of different germs, including the Hepatitis A virus, Norovirus, Rotavirus, Salmonella, and E. coli.”
– Dirty Laundry? How Nasty Germs Survive In Your Washer by Kim Carollo and the ABC News Medical Unit
“You may have been relying on your detergent to get rid of all the dirt and germs, but if you’re not using bleach or very hot water, you’re not killing the bacteria – they’re getting on your hands and staying in the washing machine… Using the right concentration of bleach will kill the bacteria, but using bleach isn’t always appropriate, such as when you wash lingerie or colored clothing.”
– Phillip Tierno, Professor of Microbiology and Pathology at the New York University School of Medicine and author of the book “The Secret Life of Germs”
“If you wash a load of just underwear, there will be about 100 million E. coli in the wash water, and they can be transmitted to the next load of laundry.”
– Charles Gerba, Professor of Microbiology at the University of Arizona
“Remember there is plenty of poop being washed out of the underwear of people who don’t have good sphincter control and of course cloth diapers, clothes affected by blow-outs, and the threads of kids who haven’t yet learned how to poop on the potty. All in the same washing machine you launder your pillowcases.”

Q: How much energy does this use per month? How much power is consumed?
A: This device is definitely more energy efficient than that big old traditional tumble dryer that you’ve been using. It saves you energy because our device is only 1000 Watts. If you use this device for exactly one hour, then its 1 kilowatt hour (kWh)! To figure out how much that comes out to every month, multiply that number by how many hours you use it every month, times the cost per kWh. So for example, if you ran it a total of 5 hours per week at $0.10 per kWh, then it would cost you $2.00 to run it for that month! Keep in mind that regular dryers can vary from over 2000 watts to over 5000 watts! In the end, you’re saving a lot more money and doing less harm to your clothes by using our dryer. You can wear your favorite shirt longer in addition to using saving money from the electricity bill!
Q: Will the portable dryer leave wrinkles?
A: Our device is not a wrinkle remover by itself, but it will leave your clothes in much better conditions than if you were to use a traditional tumble dryer. Think of all that tumbling! Instead, hang your clothes inside and in moments you can enjoy fresh warm clothes that have been dried by clean fresh air! They don’t have to be abused and wrinkled in traditional tumble dryers. You can also supplement our dryer with other solutions such as fabric softener and water mixture to help remove wrinkles!
Q: Is it safe? Will it overheat or blow up?
A: Of course it’s safe! Our motor is built with the highest quality safeguards, such as extra adhesives inside and also a 75 degrees Celsius Recover Thermostat that automatically shuts down the motor if it were to ever overheat. That means you always have the peace of mind knowing that your clothes will always be safely dried. Our power cord is also heavy duty and 3 pronged. With CE, CB, and RoHS certification standards as well, there’s not a thing that you have to worry about!
Q: What is the size of this device? How portable is it?
A: Our dryer is very portable. You can assemble it and disassemble it quickly and as needed. Our dryer is roughly 25.6 inches in diameter, and it’s only 61 inches tall! Its 6.3 pounds light, so you can easily disassemble it and store it or take it on the go!
Q: Is this device battery operated or plug in?
A: This device is plug in, and it does not require any batteries! It works on an 110V or 120V power outlet meaning it works on any regular power outlet.
Q: What is the capacity of clothes for this dryer?
A: Our recommended safe capacity of clothing is 22 pounds of clothes. That’s a lot of clothes. We do not recommend for you to put more clothes than that, even if it can handle more than that, because it would violate our warranty terms and it may not be safe.
Q: How fast does it dry clothes? How does the timer work?
A: Our dryer is the middle ground between an invasive tumble dryer and slow hang drying. It won’t be as fast as a regular dryer, but it will be a hell of a lot faster than regular hang drying! All with less damage on your clothes! The speed at which your clothes will be dried depends on how wet your clothes are and the quantity of clothes that go inside. For the best results, we recommend you wring out your clothes to dewater them, or put them through a spin dryer. The more clothes that go inside, the longer it will take to dry. Either way, we prefer this method to the rumbling and tumbling of traditional dryers.
Q: How does the device work? Does it rotate? How do we put clothes in there?
A: Our dryer is simple to assemble and operate! After assembly, put your clothes in there, zip it up, and set a time. It’s as simple as that! We recommend for you to put your clothes on hangers. It’ll help straighten out your clothes, and allow them to dry better. We’ve included notches for any of your hangers to stay in place. You can use any kind of hangers you want! You can also use clothespins and clotheslines if you want to. Unfortunately, this device does not rotate. Instead, our motor powers a fan and heating element to circulate fresh warm air throughout your clothes while it is running.
Q: Is the external covering machine washable?
A: Yes, the external covering is machine washable!
Q: Does using the dryer increase the humidity or temperature in the room? What about the noise level of the dryer?
A: Yes, it will slightly increase both the humidity and the temperature of the room because of the moisture that’s being evaporated and warm air that’s being circulated. However, this is not noticeable if you’re running this in a normal open room that’s not sealed off. You can do things reduce this effect completely, just open the windows during the summer and use our device alone as a heater during the winter! This device is not very loud. Its highest noise levels are under 60 dB.
Q: Is the external covering hot during operation? What if we cover the vent holes?
A: Although the external covering will be warm during operation, but it won’t be so hot that you cannot touch it or open it. It is only fresh warm air being circulated inside throughout your clothes. Please be advised that the metal vents on the motor unit will be hot during operation, so please do not touch that. There are ventilation holes at the top of the external covering and ventilation access at the bottom for the purpose of keeping temperatures stable and keeping the air clean and fresh. Please do not obstruct the vent holes, as we put them there to allow the evaporated moisture from your damp clothes to escape into the air, and for fresh clean air to always be circulating throughout your clothes. Obstructing the external covering vents or even the motor fan vents will make the heater work harder and should not be done.
